Using a Morse taper (MT) shank drill bit requires precision to ensure concentricity. First, ensure both the drill shank and the machine spindle (or tailstock) are completely free of oil, chips, and debris. Align the tang (the flat end of the shank) with the slot in the spindle. Insert the bit firmly with a sharp upward or inward motion. For industrial heavy-duty drilling, always verify that the MT size (MT1 to MT6) matches your equipment’s Morse taper sleeve to prevent slippage during high-torque operations.

Never place taper shank tools, such as large-diameter drills or taper shank reamers, in a drill chuck. Only straight shank tools, such as standard drills, are suitable for chuck clamping. Always ensure the drill shank, sleeve, and spindle hole are clean before mounting.
